Dec 05
Yet again been another crazy week
Busy come busy, hit another peak
All the more reason a break I seek
So looking forward to the holiday beat
A review of the year thats soon to go by
What a whirlwind, as the events go by
But still we keep marching as time goes by
Much to celebrate as to 2009 I go bye

So I guess I didn’t think it was as tough as this
Dealing with loss, on the edge I try to dismiss
First comes the events of two weekends gone by
Friday night burglary and I start to sigh
Add to the mix, of monumental events;
Dad gets burnt bad with kitchen walls all bent
So it’s hard to wonder, hard not to ponder
Why these events happened, all the time I squander
Thinking ’bout myself, establishing my wealth
Just to release what matters is the health
We haven’t forgotten about my uncle’s struggle with cancer
That’s why mum is seeking God and praying for answers
Why does it all just happen at once?
Why the tough situations stacked in the months?
Seriously, it’s been a struggle, wading through all the muddle
Hurdle to next hurdle, just trying to deal with the trouble
So right now my uncle’s lying in a critical state
I’m trying real hard to see beyond imminent fate
Praying coz recently it’s what I instantly relate
What strength do I have? Its none left of my own
I’m brought along way far from my comfort zone
So it’s His strength, His grace, His story to tell
Holding me up so sure from the place I fell
It’s not a mistake, it’s not a coincidence
It’s all happened with a purpose and plan
Comfort in a storm where I don’t know which way to advance
Hold tight, hold steady, coz the wave is real heavy
Seeing no harbour and not even a jetty
But trust is a must, yes I gotta understand
Faith – what we can’t see, but I’m still in his hand

It’s funny how somethings have worked out
Two friends got ejected from where they ‘work out’
All in the space of one week you see
Can’t just be a coincidence for me
Even with the feeling of premonition,
Sometimes we still hope, we’re still wishin
That things come our way in better light,
Plans fit according to our line of sight
But that’s not the way that it always works
Getting let down, that’s part of why it hurts
You see pain can be used as a wake up call
Wake up y’all and see a rise after the fall
Coz the pain can give way to a new direction
New horizons with some time for reflection
Take it as a chance and begin to look up
Seeing the bigger picture, don’t ever give up

Could it be, a coincidence you see
Two proposal nights with success stories keyed
And that’s two in a week, something real amazing
Joining this year’s marriage trail that’s blazing
Blessing of a union, a brand new day we see
Engagement is the dawn of that day to be
Could be long and it could be short
Planning for the future, giving it real thought
I still count back to the days when I was in it
Realize what commiting means and how I fitted
Finance to spiritual ties but now I get it
In it together not 50/50 but 100 both in it

Work out a schedule, work out a plan
Get it to completion, to know where I stand
Chores can be bores, house work galore
Add the work pressure, it gets more & more
Moving out together, a steep learning curve
Learning a real living can wrack some real nerve
We both gotta curb some annoying habits
Working as one, get to know the cohabit
That’s why it’s a reminder, get off the grinder
Spend time in prayer without the timer

Can you hardly believe it? It’s been a month already
Workload’s getting heavy, but I’m trying to keep it steady
So gettin’ ready, is not as easy as seems, ease on the dreams
Coz the morning alarm’s awake and it screams…
“Get up! Get up!”, your extra early wake up call
Wake up y’all, but I’ve slept only 6 hours, that’s all
So the snooze button becomes my best friend
It all works out until I miss snooze and press ‘end’
“You gotta be kidding me”, I’ve slept in again
Victim of low sleep, I’m right back at it again
So that’s the battle of the past month or so
It seems time’s moving fast but also slow
Marriage is hard work but housework is more so

I’m tellin’ ya man, it’s the last leg of the race
Last leg of the pace, as I’m standing face to face
With my bride to be, yeah most definitely
Three sleeps til the day where we’re both to be
Float the rapids and battle the tides
Trust in the Lord, whom I confide
So even through this stress, the last minute panic
Doubts in my mind, will it succeed? yeah, can it?
But this is when I tell problems to can it
Coz it’s more than us who really planned it
I got my backing this year in 2009
Let’s do the head count, over 2009
So when I revisit, when I look behind
I know you guys got me, everything’s gon’ be fine.

Yes, yes y’all, and I’m taken back
Taken back right down to the fact,
That, even with nothing much to give
Provided all support for new life to live
Specially today, help was on the way
Like we used to do it, way back in the day
Moving all the stuff, building blocks like lego
Pots, pans and kitchen sink we transport so
Thanks for the table, unit and washing machine
Big props to Sam, we keep our laundry clean
And help from the fams both now and later
Assist a smooth move, put our priorities greater
And even through all these structural troubles
Our house is a home and where welcoming bubbles
Coz it is built with love and not on rock’n'roll
Even though “rock” on PS3 will be told
So call it a sorta mini modern great wall
Each block is built by the young and the old

It was a busy busy day… Was originally planning to head over to Chadstone in the morning to go shopping for my wedding attire with Sam. I woke up and then found out that my mum was free to go furniture shopping, so I gave Lindy a call and we went out to Nunawading to go shopping for stuff. Couldn’t believe it though, because even though most places were closed til at least 1pm for ANZAC day, we ended up buying a couch, mattress and bed frame! All were at really good prices as well… Funnily enough both dark brown, chocolatey colours. But it’s a leather couch! Seriously didn’t think I’d get one. Prolly post up photos later.
Anyway, onto the main event. Arrived at Sam’s place at 2pm and sat around for a while. We played a bit of rockband and had a few drinks. (I’m telling you, I need to pass Dream Theater – Panic Attack on Expert Drums!) Before we headed off to the Morack driving range at around 3ish, they’d written up for me a set of challenges that I was meant to achieve throughout the day, these included:
- 10 Pushups
- 20 Pushups
- 40 Pushups
- 100 Pushups
- Get punched by 2 people
- Get punched by 3 people
- Get punched by everyone
- Ask a stranger whether my hair looks ok
- Ask a stranger to tie my shoe lace
- Tell a stranger a pick up line
(might have been more but i can’t remember)
That’s where the real fun began.
Having played golf with a grand total of zero times made for a very interesting afternoon. While we were waiting for Nate to arrive, we did a few putts. I had to get two balls in different holes using 4 putts. I failed at 6. So I decided to do the 20 pushups as one of the challenges (i know, extremely safe). After that we went to the driving range. So the rules are, everytime I’d not hit it over the first mound (which was like, 10 metres away) or just miss the golf ball completely, they would add it to the tally. For every 5, I’d have to do a shot of alcohol. So embarassing, I felt like the biggest unco ever. We were making quite a ruckus too and disturbing the other people around us to the point where they told us to shutup haha… especially, when, beyond me, I managed to connect with the golf ball and not even get it onto the grass -_-. At the moment, my body is still feeling a bit tense from golf… (seriously, you’d think it’s just a game where you swing around a metal pole or something. so wrong). Afterwards they got me to choose another challenge and I chose to get punched by two people… damn, Nate really wanted to punch me but I chose Sam and Rod. haha.
Anyway, we went back to Sam’s after that, played a bit of SF2 remix on PS3, I had a few drinks to account for my lack of co-ordination in golf (which they commented on as not bad at all for a first timer). I had a quick shower and then Khoa arrived. I was then greeted with a white T-shirt with the words “SAVE ME!! MISSIONS:” and “KEN’S BUCKS ‘09″ written on the back. Underneath both sides of the headings were tasks that I need to do. Then Sam handed me a pair of pink fluffy handcuffs and said that he wouldn’t take them off until I completed all the tasks. Can’t remember what all the tasks were right now (i’ll take a photo and prolly post it up later), but some included:
- Taking a tequila shot off a stranger
- Taking a photo with a strangers, arm, shoulder and back tattoo
- Get phone numbers of 50 girls
- Try 3 cocktails
So we headed out to the Glen to get some dinner, with me wearing the T-shirt (but also hoodie on top, coz 1, i didn’t want people in Glen to see, and 2, it was freakin’ cold). Brendan and Simon joined us for dinner. We opted not to put the handcuffs on until after, as obviously, I couldn’t eat properlly with them on. Food was alright. After dinner, I went to the toilet only to realise the single male toilet was blocked. Fully nasty, so I headed out and actually walked outside the restaurant, right before their eyes and they didn’t even see me walk out. Did my thing, came back and only then did they realise and thought I’d escaped haha. Afterwards, I got handcuffed and we went to the city. Here’s where Murphy’s Law came in full force.
We were originally going to go to the Queensberry Hotel Bar…. Engagement function.
Because that was closed, we decided to head to the club that Nate had booked for us. Since it was pretty much at Crown, we decided to go to Galactic Circus first. Oh man… we went inside and had like a dozen games of the basketball ticket games: with my pink fluffy handcuffs still on. To be honest though, it was really two freakshows in one. There was like a ParaParaParadise 2nd Mix machine right next to where we played. For those of you who don’t know what that is, take a look here. It was just plain, awkward. Two tall caucasian guys dressed very metro, were not just playing the game, but doing the actual parapara dance together (keep in mind there was only one machine). The comment of the night was referring to the ingame character: “she’d be really hot in real life”. Anyway, back to basketball, I did not come last in any multiplayer vs. match! Brendan, Khoa, Rodney, you should be ashamed! You got beaten by a guy wearing pink fluffy handcuffs! haha
After that, we went to the club only to realise that they now had a dress code which half of us weren’t fitting into, plus it was getting close for some of them to leave… So yeah, we ended up saying our goodbyes, taking a few photos and what not. Then we headed back to the car (Sam, Nate, Khoa and me) and went around the city looking for a bar or club to go to…. We found none. Seriously, we went around like at least 7-8 places and they were either closing, full, or just outright closed. We went round and round, walking in 10 degree whether with girls laughing like nelson from Simpsons as they saw me in my strange ‘outfit’… I laughed too I guess…. On one of our last stops I couldn’t help myself and ended up getting an apple green slurpee by myself haha, it was awesome. Probably the most stupid thing you can do when you’re wearing a t-shirt in 10 degree weather is to get a brain freeze drinking a slurpee.
Anyway, we went back to Sam’s at about 2am and played a bit more PS3, drank a bit more and then drove home… haha… All in all I didn’t manage to do any of the challenges that night, except for 2 girls’ phone numbers!!! Kinda dissapointed at the ‘uneventfulness’ of that, but nevertheless, a very memorable bucks…. Photos to come.
p.s. I haven’t written ANYTHING over 1000 words since start of uni. Props to you for reading this far haha

Not long to go now I’m telling ya
Ain’t no failing now I’m telling ya
Time draws near so I’m organising
But there’s no music I’m organ-izing
Thankful for the help that many have offered
Some I’ve yet to tell for those that have offered
But keep in check! I better not forget!
Time’s coming up quick and I’d better not regret!
Discipline in passing out my welcomes
Welcome preferred early maybe that would help them
Keep on my toes, organiser for planning
On Him I stay focused, so there’s the ultimate standing
